What is it all about?
About this unique collection of poems:
BHM Magazine UK hosted a national BHM poetry competition as a tribute to the invaluable contributions of Black women and bringing to the forefront the emerging poetic talents from young people and the African and Caribbean communities.
Engaging over 3000 poets across the nation, the competition highlighted the indispensable role of poetry in fostering education and cultural expression.
From an overwhelming number of submissions, a panel of esteemed judges shortlisted 105 exceptional poems, with 17 talented poets advancing to the final stage and 4 winners selected.
Why Black Women?
Black women have shaped history and inspired change, making profound impacts in various spheres including literature, music, fashion, sport, business, politics, academia, and healthcare.
The BHM Platform wanted to shine a light on the outstanding black women who have been pivotal in transformative social justice movements throughout history but their courageous contributions have often been overshadowed or neglected.
‘Saluting Our Sisters’ was about correcting this.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING
Joseph Coelho OBE
Children's Laureate (2022-2024)
This is a poetry collection to be savoured. It is an invitation to think about, pay tribute, honour and learn about the lives of black women. So often the many accomplishments of black women have gone horrifically unsung.

I am excited this anthology of poems dedicated to celebrating black women. It is so inspiring and I can't wait to read and to feel empowered by the poems. This is a much needed toolkit.
